Why men should be feminists?

The problem with the term feminism is the same as with the term political correctness – everyone talks about it, but no one know what it means.

What is political correctness? Formalized kindness. And what is feminism – simple – the idea that women should have the same rights as men, no matter how smart, stupid, crazy, fat, lazy or rude they are.

Women are currently accused of many offences – that they are no longer feminine, that they castrate men (figuratively), that they would scratch each others eyes out. Seriously?

Women have been underestimated, attacked, persecuted, humiliated both mentally and physically and culturally ignored for centuries – in fact, and above all by men.

And men still have a privileged position in the modern Western society and don’t even recognize it. Those are the facts and will remain facts as long as we have the huge pay gap difference and glass ceiling issues. Btw the problem with the glass ceiling is that its made of glass and you can’t see it.

Women feel the tangible inequality through day-to-day experience. For men it’s more of an intellectual exercise. The only way to bring the to sides together if for men to think about these issues in relation to the women they care about – their partners, mothers, sisters.

The basic question every women should ask herself while obsessing about her looks, expectations that others project on her and all the other bullshit is – do men do the same? Do men give a damn? Normally, the answer is no. And this is feminism – to be like them, on the same footing, stop obsessing.

Men have an inherited problem of patriarchy – contemporary male-female relations are not the same as of our parents. Recently at a public meeting, a colleague, jokingly said I have nice breasts. Hmm, and this is why men should be feminists. Of course, I will not make a scene saying that the comment was out of line. Let alone reply with the same sort of joke. Men must themselves understand that the foundation of good relationship is mutual respect. And it is not the role of women to educate men on that.

Men should be feminists for three reasons:

Male-female stereotypes do not serve anyone – a way to break these stereotypes is to put an end to the belief that real men must provide for the family, otherwise they are not men, that they have to have balls, be aggressive, otherwise they’re perceived as wimps. I mean, imagine a ‘real man’ admitting that he doesn’t want to watch a game with his pals, because he wants to stay home and watch the kids.

Economy stupid – half of the potential workforce in the world are women. Nothing more easier than unleashing this work power.

Happy woman is a happy man – studies show that relationships of women and men-feminists are characterized by greater life stability and more satisfying sex life. I guess I have nothing more to add.

Win-win situation.

I recommend a hilarious book by Caitlin Moran “How to be a Woman”

Serio?
